Barons to Bloggers…
the idea that bloggers are changing the face of journalism is something evident even when reading the websites of the mainstream newspapers.
based on the readings i enjoyed reading the insights from people into the industry and getting different perspectives into the implications of online journalism and bloggers taking over the world. I enjoy reading online content so much, and rarely if ever buy newspapers it was actually really helpful to read insights into the change from another point of view. The Rupert Murdoch quote felt ironic in the context of looking at FOX news.
the piece from Barons to Bloggers called Nullius in verba written by Lance Knobel the exploration of the use of new media and the internet for research purposes, and the discussion about the pros and cons of Google, Wikipedia and Skype. These three elements seem to have a really relevant and important space in defining culture generally not just journalism.
I would agree with the basic concensus that there are plenty of blogs out there that are pointless and aren’t adding to culture and sharing in information in the utopian manner we can often view online content, however I do love the idea that there are so many stories being uncovered and told by people who may not have had the chance in the past. I have no doubt that the newspaper barrons and journalists will eventually find and adapt to new media and find a way to make money and living out of it. New media has allowed some great new and important voices to be heard.
